Editorial Intelligence and Partners hosted the Comment Conference: The Manufacturing Economy in London on 28th March 2012.
Held in association with BAE Systems, Coca-Cola Enterprises and City A.M., and hosted by the Institute for Government.
Manufacturing is a vital part of the UK’s economy and will be a major driver behind economic growth. The Manufacturing Economy will bring together the key players and thinkers in British manufacturing today.
Through a programme of panels, keynotes and discussion, the sixth Comment Conference from Editorial Intelligence examined the wealth of manufacturing industries in the UK; current and new models for manufacturing and the productivity benefits to investment in technological innovation and sustainable manufacturing. Engagement and skilling of young people into industry, design and the manufacturing sector as a whole was addressed as key to the future of the UK industry.
Speakers include Martin McCourt, former Chief Executive of Dyson and Peter Luff, Minister for Defence Equipment, Support and Technology. The audience gathered opinion formers across business, media, academia, policy and public life who debated and discussed these issues with our speakers and panellists.
More specifically sessions during the morning looked at:

• How to inspire and incentivise young people to make things
• Made in Britain: UK brands in a global market place
