Stewart Purvis
Professor of Television Journalism, City University London

Stewart Purvis is Professor of Television Journalism at City University London.He is a former Editor of Channel Four News,Editor-in-Chief and Chief Executive of ITN and President of EuroNews. From 2007 to 2010 he  was Ofcom's Partner for Content and Standards, responsible for the implementation of the Ofcom Broadcast Code.  In 2000 he was made a CBE for services to broadcast journalism and in 2009 he received the Royal Television Society's Gold Medal for an outstanding contribution to television. He has also won BAFTA and Royal Television Society journalism awards.

Apart from teaching at City University, last year Stewart Purvis advised  the House of Lords Select Committee on Communications, made a documentary for BBC Radio Four,and sat on the DCMS panel which appointed Lord Patten as Chairman of the BBC. He has just chaired the negotiations which led to the signing last month of an  MoU between DCMS and the radio industry on the future of local digital  radio. He is also a member of the Press Review Group created by the Media Standards Trust to provide recommendations on press regulation to Lord Justice Leveson.
